The Races

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out on your fitness journey, our upcoming marathon event offers something for everyone. With a variety of race categories to choose from, participants can challenge themselves and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line. Let’s delve into each category:

Habitat Planning Marathon – Alternative 2026 Route

Pub to Pelican has always been about adventure — a scenic, point-to-point journey showcasing the very best of our region — and this year is no different.

Starting at the iconic Bethanga Pub, runners will be warmly welcomed by locals and publicans with early morning coffee, country hospitality and that unmistakable small-town buzz. It’s a start line that feels personal, authentic and uniquely ours.

From there, the course rolls along Bethanga Bay Road, descending toward Lake Road before turning left to follow the stunning shoreline of Lake Hume. After passing through Old Tallangatta, runners turn right to cross the lake, opening up sweeping valley views alongside the Murray Valley Highway. The route takes in the Old Tallangatta Lookout, crosses the Mitta Mitta River, and continues toward Tallangatta.

The final stretch winds back along the water and through town before finishing at Pelican Park on the foreshore — a scenic and community-driven finish that captures the spirit of the event.

With approximately 600m of climbing and 680m of descending, the first 15km are gently undulating before the course flattens for the next 27km to the finish. A little hillier this year, but still adventurous, scenic and proudly regional — everything Pub to Pelican is known for.

Stepz Fitness Albury Half Marathon

Ideal for those seeking a significant challenge with a slightly shorter distance, the half marathon covers 21.1 kilometres. It strikes a perfect balance between testing one’s endurance and providing a manageable goal for intermediate runners or marathon runners in preparation.

Starting from Bullioh, the Half Marathon offers a scenic route with a slight descent for the first 5k, followed by a picturesque 8k stretch along Lake Hume. You’ll pass by the stunning lookout of Old Tallangatta before heading towards Tallangatta as we know it today. After a quick turnaround, you’ll run through the charming streets of Tallangatta before finishing at the beautiful Pelican Park on the foreshore of Lake Hume.

With only 95 metres of elevation gain and 120 metres of elevation loss, it promises to be a fairly fast course with plenty of beautiful views along the way. Enjoy the run and soak in the breathtaking scenery!

Tallangatta Bakery 10KM

The 10K race is a popular choice for both novice and experienced runners alike. Covering a distance of 10 kilometres, this category provides an achievable challenge for those looking to step up from shorter distances, maintain their fitness, or test their pace.

Starting at the Old Tallangatta Lookout, the 10K route offers a scenic roll along the foreshore, across the causeway where the Mitta Mitta River meets Lake Hume, and through the new town of Tallangatta with its charming 1950s vibe. Crossing the finish line at Pelican Park, you’ll be greeted by fellow runners and refreshments.

With a gentle 1-2% gradient and a 1k climb at the 5k mark, you’ll mostly run downhill for the last 4 kilometres. It’s a delightful course with stunning views and varied terrain. Lace up your shoes and make it happen!

Whether walking, jogging, or sprinting, participants will enjoy the sense of accomplishment as they cross the finish line, surrounded by the cheers of supporters.

Starting and finishing at Pelican Park, this course offers a safe and scenic route along the tranquil foreshore of Lake Hume. With gentle undulations, it provides a pleasant running experience, allowing you to enjoy the serene surroundings and focus on finishing. While all 3K participants will run together, there will be a separate category for participants 12 years and under (prizes awarded to the children categories only). Get amongst the action!
